Overview of our partnership
A partnership driving system change
We have partnered with Lumos since 2020, working together to support long-term reform of child protection systems in Colombia. This partnership focuses on addressing the root causes of family separation and supporting the transition from institutions to family-based care and community services.
Through a growing network of local organisations and close collaboration with public institutions, this work is helping reshape how care is understood and delivered. Together, we support locally led efforts that strengthen families, prevent separation and create pathways for children to grow up in safe and supportive environments. We are proud to be part of a partnership that combines community-based work with national-level influence to drive meaningful change.
Active projects
What we are working on together
Partnering for Change Across Colombia
This initiative works across multiple levels to strengthen family-based care and community services and reduce reliance on residential institutions. It combines practical support to local organisations with technical assistance to public institutions, helping embed more effective care models within national and regional systems.
The programme supports the development and replication of community-based services that prevent family separation and enable safe reintegration. It also strengthens coordination between government actors and service providers, contributing to more consistent and effective child protection approaches across different regions.
A central element of the work is ensuring that children and young people with lived experience are actively involved in shaping services and advocacy efforts, bringing their voices into national and local conversations about care. The programme is also contributing to broader policy reform by supporting the development and implementation of Colombia’s National Action Plan for care transformation.

Fundación Michín (Colombia)
Non-profit organisation that has worked since 1958 to protect children and young people whose rights have been violated, while preventing further harm by strengthening families and communities. Through its programmes, it has supported over 30,000 children and young people, promoting protective environments and community participation.
Fundación Casa de la Chinca (Colombia)
The Foundation has worked since 1961 to support girls and young women whose rights have been violated, providing safe spaces for protection, personal development and empowerment. Through a holistic approach, the organisation supports them to build confidence, pursue their aspirations and shape their futures.
